T. Armando

I’d like to share a story about my friend and fellow transplant recipient, T Armando Bickum. He received a kidney transplant just a month before I did, and our journeys have been intertwined from the start. Before his transplant, he reached out to me seeking guidance on getting into better shape while on dialysis. Many people don’t understand that being in good physical condition can significantly impact eligibility for a transplant. He shared his aspiration to become a bodybuilder, asking if it was achievable. I assured him that I was living proof of what determination could accomplish, and his inspiring journey began during his time on dialysis. We made a plan and he stuck to it. Despite the skeptics who told him it was impossible, he chose to embrace the challenge and kept pushing forward. I often reflect on how grateful I am for the experiences I’ve had, as they empower me to inspire others and demonstrate that overcoming challenges is indeed possible. He understood the principle that even though I could help, no one can achieve your goals for you.

Some people settle for a life of comfort, putting in minimal effort while they sit in your wagon as you strain to pull it uphill. With their arms crossed and legs folded, they refuse to help steer the course. They chase after trends, searching for a magic formula for success, yet they never take the necessary steps to create anything for themselves. When hard work is required, they remain inactive, only to play the victim when results elude them. They deceive others, blaming them for their lack of achievement while conveniently ignoring their indulgences behind closed doors.

I often told my clients who claimed to follow the meal plan but didn’t, “I can see exactly what you’re doing because I have two crystal balls: your butt and your gut. If they’re larger than you’d like, it’s an indicator that you’re not truly working toward your goals—and that’s perfectly fine. If you don’t sow the seeds, don’t expect a harvest. However, if you choose to lie and pretend you’re putting in the work while neglecting to till the soil, plant, and water, don’t fool yourself into expecting a bountiful crop.

Stop pretending. Stop making false claims about your productivity. The signs are everywhere. If you truly want something, you must actively pursue it. When you identify your goal, grasp it with both hands. Once you set your sights on it, intensify your desire to attain it. Then, you need to chase it down relentlessly. Put in the effort, and it will be yours.

Great job, T. We salute you!
