To Boldy Go

We all have a choice to step out into the unknown, but there is a difference in how you do it. We can step out “boldly” with a belief that we will accomplish the mission or with hesitancy, not expecting it to happen.

STAR TREK is a science fiction show created by Gene Roddenberry in the 1960s. He was a fighter pilot in WW 2 and then a police officer when he wrote the series Star Trek. It was first refused because it was too controversial at the time. A show with aliens and interracial scenes (it produced the first interracial kiss) was too extreme for TV producers. However, in time they allowed it. Not thinking it would last but a season or two they had the intro to the show read as follows:

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages

of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year

mission: …………

After a few seasons, the show was a huge hit and they were approaching the five-year mark. They had to change the intro. This time without hesitation and disbelief they changed their mindset and had the intro read:

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages

of the starship Enterprise. Its CONTINUING

mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek

out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go

where no one has gone before!

If you must go, go boldly where no man has gone before.
