It is difficult at times to see progress. We try and try and yet time seems to yield results slowly while others seem to see progress faster. This can be depressing unless you look at life situations as that of “hands on a clock”.
If you look at a clock, notice the “seconds” hand. This hand is constantly moving around and around without hesitation or pause. This is as those p…eople who seem to constantly invest in a “fitness” endeavor. They are always motivated, either running, hiking or planning a fitness outing. We hate these people! They seem to be motivated while doing all the right things having us to believe they are and will reach their goals faster than us. Then we see the minute hand. It moves a very short distance, but only every minute. This can seem depressing to wait such a long time and yet, move only a fraction of an inch. These are those who exercise, not as much as the second hand people, but they do yield results. Not quickly, but every few months we notice “something”. A few pounds lost here, a newer smaller outfit. Then there is the “hour” hand which moves 60 times slower than the minute hand and yet, it seems to travel a bit further in distance than the minute hand during its tenure. These are those we see once or twice a year making changes. We don’t hear of the running, weight training or eating healthier, but we do notice every summer that they are a bit better than last year. These fallacies can give one the illusion of a hopeless mentality unless you take a step back and notice; that all the hands on the clock, no matter what the speed, keep the same time..
Yes, the second hand moves constantly, but it takes a full revolution to obtain the same distance as the minute hand. The hour hand seems to never move yet, the minute hand must revolve sixty times to reach the same distance and the seconds hand must travel 3600 seconds to also reach the same distance of the hourly hand. The point is, it doesn’t matter how fast you are moving or seeing signs of progress, you must keep moving forward and eventually your goal will be reached. If you stop because you “feel” you are not moving fast enough, that demonic scale is not moving to the left quick enough or you can’t fit into the jeans that your friend can, all hope will be lost. Run your race and let time not be a factor.
