Feeling great!!!
I would first like to thank my donors for their gifts. To this day I cannot understand how someone could find themselves caring enough to give to someone they do not know. I am blessed. To my doctors and staff of Maine Transplant. To be so caring and giving of their time to take care of me. They were always there encouraging and two steps ahead of any situation. God gave the gift of medicine to the right people. The R5 staff at Maine Med was and still is INCREDIBLE. I didn’t want to leave! They are my guardian angels and went too far and beyond to help me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. The kidney worked right away. It’s going to take some time for it to reach 100 percent of cleaning my blood, but it is well on its way. I got hit with an E Coli infection, but it was cleared the next day. The hardest part was thyroglobulin (used to drop my immune system), but we prevailed. My hemoglobin is low (7), but I was reassured its continued climb. My donor was a small woman (yes, another girl kidney, but girl kidneys rock!). She is small so it will take time to catch up. The doctor says I will feel like I got hit by a truck for the next two weeks, but a truck is light for the Man of Steel.
