a word that was originally used in Kingston, Jamaica in the 1980s ska and Jamaican dancehall cultures. It was used to describe an anti-social youth who was non law-abiding and was feared by others.
You cannot live forever so what will be your standard? I asked others at what age would they want to live. They all gave me answers far past their current ages but I then asked them; “What would you want your health to be?” Will you want to be sickly having your children take care of you? Physically and financially dependent on others? Or would you want to be a beacon of hope, endurance, and perseverance to your grandchildren?
So you got knocked down, stop complaining and get to work. Use what you have as a stepping stone and grind. Muhammad Ali once said when fighting Joe Frazier for the second time. It was a brutal fight in which he won. “It was as close to death as I came.” He went on to say years later that he would have died before he would let Frazier beat him. “Imagine that. I would have been the world’s first dead champion.”
Unfortunately, we will all die, but will you die as a champion? My goal is when I die, I want my grandkids to wear a t-shirt that reads, “My grandfather, Grand Dad, G Daddy was a Bad Man!!”
